BIPV SOLAR MANUFACTURERS
Our research on individual solar manufacturers who manufacture BIPV solar options with a brief overview of each company, where their corporate offices are and where the panels are actually made.
Alwitra - founded in 1964 with headquarters in Trier, Germany, they specialize in roofing systems. One of their newest and most promising products is Evalon Solar, a high-performance single-ply waterproofing membrane with flexible and lightweight photovoltaic (PV) modules for multi-purpose roof covering. The product is supplied on rolls making it easy to integrate into any rooftop, mechanically fixed then ready to be electrically connected. The thin film triple junction technology used in the PV cells allows effective harvesting of solar energy on any roof with a pitch of above 3 degrees. They have partnered with companies across the world [except for the United States] to distribute their product.
Ascent Solar - based in Colorado, the company's 1.5 megawatt (MW) production line (FAB1) has been in production since 2009. The 30 MW production facility (FAB2) in Thornton, Colorado, will begin production with an annual rated production capacity of approximately 15 MW in the first half of 2010 and will ramp up to full annual rated production capacity by the end of 2010. Ascent Solar was formed in October 2005 from the spinout by ITN Energy, Inc. of its Advanced Photovoltaic Division and its division's key personnel and core technologies. ITN founded global solar in 1996 to manufacture flexible CIGS thin-film technology using a steel substrate. This experience led to the development of Ascent Solar's thin-film CIGS technology on plastic substrates, the only company producing thin-film on flexible plastic today. Ascent is a developer of thin-film photovoltaic modules with substrate materials that can be more flexible and affordable than most traditional solar panels.
SOLARVITO - means "solar gives life to all", located in South Korea. Until recently it was part of its holding company, SEJONG INC - a construction company founded in 1976. The holding company is a family business and a construction company specialized in plants in Korea. It is a bit difficult to find real information on their website but they state that they do manufacture BIPV modules.
Solarwatt - headquartered in Dresden, is one of the leading German manufacturers of solar modules and suppliers of photovoltaic systems. Since it was founded in 1993, the company has grown continuously and now employs 460 members of staff. 2009 revenue amounted to 296 million Euros. The range of products includes monocrystalline and polycrystalline standard solar modules for solar power stations and for building-integrated systems (BIPV), small modules, and special modules for sophisticated architectural applications. Their BIPV modules are made as glass-glass modules or glass-foil modules with maximum system voltage of 750/870V and nominal power of 135 to 250Wp. A further area of business covers the implementation of turnkey projects. The power spectrum of the modules ranges from 2 to 350 watts. The company launched its new highly automated solar module production line and a new logistics center in September 2010 in Dresden.
Suntech - Founded in 2001 by leading solar scientist Dr. Zhengrong Shi, they are one of the world’s largest producer of silicon solar modules. Founded in 2001 by leading solar scientist Dr. Zhengrong Shi, we are the world’s largest producer of silicon solar modules. Suntech has offices in 13 countries, including regional headquarters in San Francisco, California; Schaffhausen, Switzerland; and Wuxi, China. Their manufacturing sites are located in China, Japan and the United States. The company makes monocrystalline and polycrystalline photovoltaic solar modules with maximum power ranging from 5 to 260 Watts and maximum voltage of 600, 715, or 1000 volts. Suntech's revolutionary Pluto technology decreases reflectivity of cells, ensuring that more sunlight is absorbed and increasing output to record-breaking levels. Its solar photovoltaic cells have a conversion efficiency of up to 19%, versus the industry average of 13%. Suntech is The facility will be used to produce Suntech's 280 watt Vd-series modules that are used mostly for commercial and utility-scale projects.
They manufacture two BIPV products: Suntech Just Roof and QuikSnap. Suntech Just Roof is an integrated roof photovoltaic panel designed to form a complete roof. Just Roof replaces tiles or other roof coverings and is ideal for gabled or pitched roofs. The Just Roof modules replace all roofing materials (excluding ridges, span and edges of eaves) to create a completely weatherproof roof. QuikSnap is an advanced, high performance solar power system with integrated high efficiency solar modules. It's sleek and stylish, yet delivers unparalleled, built-in reliability - a beautiful way to protect the environment, save power costs, and add to the value of your home or business. QuikSnap is only available in Europe, Japan and Australia.
